Core Beliefs
The following are the core beliefs of Westview Christian Church | SHREVEPORT, LA based on the foundational truths taught in the bible. All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these biblical doctrines.
God
There is one eternally existing God who has three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. He is the creator of all that exists, both visible and invisible, and is therefore worthy of all glory and praise. God is perfect in love, power, holiness, goodness, knowledge, wisdom, justice, and mercy. He is unchangeable and therefore is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
Jesus Christ
We believe that Jesus Christ is the Messiah, the Savior, the Son of God. He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died on the cross in the place of our sins, and rose physically from the grave. And we believe that Jesus will return as our victorious Lord.
Holy Spirit
We believe that everyone who accepts Christ, in faith, repenting of their sins and being baptized for the forgiveness of sins, receives the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit convicts us of sin, glorifies Jesus Christ, comforts the hurting, sanctifies, equips believers with spiritual gifts, unifies the body of Christ, teaches us the Word of God, and assures us of our salvation.
The Bible
We believe that the Bible is the written word of God, divinely inspired and infallible. It is the only authority for all faith. It is our guide.
Salvation
We believe that the Bible teaches we are saved by grace through faith. Salvation does not come as the result of something we have done but rather because of what God has done. It is a free gift that cannot be earned or deserved. We receive that gift by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Baptism
We believe that baptism is essential to salvation. The New Testament provides a clear and consistent pattern of salvation that includes repentance of sins, faith in Christ, confession of Jesus as Lord and Savior, and baptism by immersion for the forgiveness of sins. In the New Testament, every believer was commanded to be baptized.
The church
We believe the church should function as the body of Christ, an extension of Jesus Christ's character, attitude, behavior, and mission (to make disciples). We believe that Jesus is the head of the church.
Communion
We believe that Jesus established two ordinances: The Lord's Supper (communion) and baptism. The Bible does not set a prescribed time for observing this communion, but we follow Acts 20:7 by coming together each Sunday to remember Jesus Christ and partake of the emblems that represent his body and blood sacrificed for us.
Humanity
We believe the Bible teaches that God is the Creator and Sustainer of human life; that God creates each person in His image; and that life is therefore sacred, from conception. We believe that God creates each person as male or female; that these two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image of God in humankind; and that each person's biological gender is a natural, unchangeable aspect of his or her nature and identity.
Marriage
We believe the Bible teaches that God established marriage in the beginning as a lifelong, exclusive relationship between one man and one woman; that He has reserved sexual intimacy as an expression of love and commitment between married couples; that any intimate
